Motion Offroad C02 Tank (mounted in an XJ)

I've had my Motion Offroad C02 Tank for well over a year and absolutly love it. I however got tired of trying to figure out a way to mount it in the XJ. So I broke down and ordered a tank mount.

Here is the setup I'm running;

Motion Offroad C02 Tank w/ Regulator - http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=18_20&products_id=3

Motion Offroad C02 Tank Boot - http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=18_20&products_id=37

Motion Offroad C02 Bracket - http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=18_20&products_id=463

We don't run the spare tire inside anymore (wont' fit) so that space is kinda useless. I opted to mount the bracket in basicly the same spot that the tire used to mount in.

I had to cut the little tab off that the tire hook than goes threw. Just did it with my Dremel and had it done in about 2 mins. I than mocked up the bracket with the tank mounted to make sure I could easily get the tank in/out. Marked the plastic, drilled the holes, and than removed the plastic from the side and drilled holes in the mounting attachment already there. Went to the hardware store and got some bolts and put it all back together.

Here is a photo of the tank mount mounted in an XJ.

And with the Motion Offroad C02 tank mounted up.

Overall very happy with the way it turned out. Also happy with the quality of both the tank and the bracket. The tank fits in the bracket very nicely and does not move around.

Something I have always wondered about the CO2.  Does the heat effect the CO2?  Any worries of it exploding or anything?

CO2 vapor is inert (non-toxic, non-corrosive). CO2 vapor is perfectly safe for your tires and wheels. CO2 undergoes a phase change from liquid to gas once it exits the regulator.

CO2 tanks are at a VERY high pressure and there is always a possibility of tank pressure relief due to extreme temperature changes. A high pressure tank can easily become a projectile if it go's off. With a pressure relief valve the valve will pop to releave the pressure and no damage is done. I'd HIGHLY recommend not running a tank unless you have a regulator with a pressure relief valve on it. The Motion Offroad regulator has this releif valve on it set for 175psi; so no worries with this setup of exploding tanks.

Happy to chime in here!!! I am thrilled to have this mount as it keeps that CO2 tank from rolling around and rattling in the back of my XJ.

I too have been a bit concerned about it becoming a projectile, but only really because it wasn't firmly latched down. Now, I don't worry about that anymore!

Thanks again, Motion Offroad!!! number1.gif
