yeah i have fish, but only had them for about 3 weeks.  had a 10 gallon setup laying around so i decided to put it to use.  but i forgot how much of a pain 10 gallon tanks are.  so i've decided to get a mondo sized tank.  i'm really curious as to what size adam's is.  my buddy zach has 2 fish that are pretty sweet and they can get 12"-16" in length, so if i wanna get those i've gotta get a big tank.

I used to do fish. I had a "community" tank and an "aggressive" tank. I do enjoy watching them, but go SOOO tired of cleaning the tanks. My community tank was probably 3-4 feet long. My aggressive tank was only a 10 or 20 gallon tank.

Good luck with your fish. They are pleasant to watch.

In my community tank I had...

Golden Gouramis
Gourami%20Golden.jpg

Pink Kissing Gouramis (they look like they are trying to kiss, but what fish doesn't???  weirdface )
Gourami%20Pink%20Kissing.jpg

Kuhli Loaches
(pronounced COOLEE, I think)
These guys really like to hide though.  So, when they come out they are way cool, but don't expect to see them a lot.
KuhliLoach1.jpg

There were so many more, but I can't remember off the top of my head...

I know this has been up here awhile but figured I would chime in. I am trying to gather money for a new car and have 3 aquariums. 2 are 55 Gallon and one is a 90 gallon. All three have wooden stands and lights and everything you would need to run them. The 55s are oak trim with oak colored wooen stands. One is a community tank with various small fish. The other is a cichlid tank with a Jack Dempsey, Red Devil, Obliquedon, 2 Green Terrors, mated pair of Convict cichlids (spawned twice for me so far) and a Pike chiclid. The 90 is black with a black wooden stand and is currently set up as a salt tank. It has a small Huma Huma Trigger (Picasso), a Blue Khoran Angel, and a Stars and Stripes puffer. The 90 and the cichlid 55 have good lights, basically as close to sunlight as you can get, the other has a normal flourescent light. I would ask for 100 for each 55 with everything that goes with them even the fish if you want them. The 90 I dont think I could let go for less than 250 with the cost of the tank, stand, light, and all the other things, and fish if you wanted them. Fish alone were 140 for the 3. I would also have to get the wife to agree which may be the hard part. And for reference the 90 is basically the same size as a 75 but taller. 48"x18"x 24" I think, the height is the one I am unsure of. Anyway, if there is any interest let me know. Paul

EDIT: Just so everyone knows there is the possibility to negotiate prices here. I need money more than the tanks.

thanks for the reply! sounds like you've got a nice collection.

i am quite possibly very interested in the cichlid tank.  those are the types of fish i've been looking into actually. got a few questions first though... and they can be answered pertaining to all 3 tanks because i may have another person interested as well, so gimme all the info you can.

how long have you had the tanks?

how do the fish get along, in each tank?

how about some dimensions? stand sizes, tanks, etc.

and a big favor, can you possibly get pictures of the 3 setups???

looking forward to hearing back from ya!! thanks!!biggrin

Dan

As far as how long I have had the tanks. I have had the 55s for about 3 years. The 90 I have had less than a year.

The 55 community tank everything gets along, no tenstion at all. All the fish are relatively small about 1" to maybe a little bigger. Nothing special or fancy in it just things that would get along.

The 55 cichlid tank, well they get along as in no one is trying to eat anyone else. It is a cichlid tank and chasing and nipping attempts are common, just the type of fish they are. The convicts pair is territorial at one end of the tank where they spawn. The Red Devil, who is the biggest shares the other side with the Pike cichlid who is about as long. There is a plastic bridge in the tank and one half is on each side. Convicts have half the other is the Devils territory. The Pike lives inside the half where the Devil claims. I would say the biggest fued there is would be the convicts and the pike. The pike likes baby convicts, the convicts do too, just for other reasons biggrin The pike will bite the convicts, but has yet to do any physical damage. He basically puffs up and wraps his mouth around their entire face and they leave him alone for a bit. He eats a few babies and life goes on. Oh, there is also a Firemouth in the tank which I did not mention, he has a beautiful red belly / mouth. As for the other fish they hang out on top and in the middle and since they are always on guard they always show their best colors.

The 90 Salt, everything gets along great. I tried hard to get things that would go together. There are only 3 fish and their sizes and temperments work well and make everyone get along. The Huma is agressive and grabs any food he wants. The Puffer who is the biggest knows he is getting his food so he really does not pay any mind to the trigger. The angel eats left overs from the puffer who eats frozen krill and is very messy. The trigger eats frozen silversides. Basically I put the food in and each goes to the food they normally eat and there is harmony.

Dimensions are 55= 48"x12.5"x20" and the stands are about 28" high. They have doors to hide equipment underneath and are open in the back for ease of using equipment and keeping it hidden.

The 90 is 48"x18"x25" and it has a similar stand as the 55 gallon. As for pics:

I can tell you I have not had any troubles with any of the tanks, no leaks or anything. One of the 55s hoods are both cracked, they are cheap to replace and very easy to sit down while cleaning the tank and break lol. The other they ordered the lids for the wrong tank maker so the lids are a hair oversized width wise. Not a big deal, they look normal unless you look close. The 90 I am picking up a skimmer for because it needs one being saltwater and because the puffer is a messy eater but it would come with the tank. Also part of the reason I want more for the 90 is there is only one company that makes them and I special ordered it from a local store.

If there is anything I have missed just let me know and I will do what I can to help you out with info or whatever you need.

EDIT: If you and your friend want all of them I will go 400$ for all 3 with or without fish, your choice. Also, depending on where you live I can bring them all to you or work something out to meet part way or something. It honestly depends on the distance since I would have to take the wife's Liberty and it is a horrid gas hog.

EDITED EDIT: I see from your profile you are in Decatur, that would be np to deliver. I will tell you though if you want the fish too the Salt fish are fragile and there is no guarentee they would survive the trip. They should since it is like 30 minutes but you would have to have a way to get the tank back up and filled to put them in fairly fast.

Thought I would try and get some pics of the fish in the Salt and Cichlid tanks. Some are better than others, not that great with my wife's camera, and seems some of the fish like the camera more than others.

OH!!! I am so glad Paul posted these pictures!!! It helped me remember what I had in my aggressive tank.

I too had a couple Firemouths (FM) and several Striped Convicts (SC). I forget what others I had in there because they didn't last long with these fish. My experience with this combo is quite different. I had at least 3 SC and 2 FM to begin with. One of the SC just disappeared within a few weeks of having the tank. Then, one of the FM kept getting picked apart, but I could never see who or what was doing it. Finally, it go down to 2 SC and 1 FM and then one of the SC got tore up! I had to take it out and put it in its own little tiny tank to nurse it back to health. From then on, everything was fine. The SC flourished and the FM flourished.

I was at a zoo or aquarium some months later and was observing the "Amazon" area. There were large tanks with pools in them. They had it arranged so the snakes and lizards, etc. could go in and out of the water. Well, what do you know... There in a tank with the Cayman (gator type lizard thing- really vicious) were my little SC friends just swimming around. I thought to myself then (and later confirmed with a pet store worker) that those SC must be pretty tough and brave to be hanging around in those waters.

So, long story short... Firemouths might be aggressive, but Striped Convicts are more intimidating than some larger fish.

I am not trying to discourage you from this combo as if it works for Paul it might continue to work, but it did not work for me.

I still don't know where that one SC went! confuse.gif
