4.0 Renix A/C deleted bracket?

I am wondering if one exists. I don't think I will be converting my a/c compressor to OBA so I thought that deleting it to gain a little power might be an inexpensive alternative.

Do they exist? Yes...

Are they easy to get ahold of? No...

They are NLA from the dealer. So your only option is to find one on an existing Jeep at a junkyard, or find someone selling one. I've seen them go for quite a bit of money...

The HO 4.0L one's are available from the aftermarket supply chains; however I've never tried to see if one can be adapted to a Renix motor. Everyone says no, but I have not see anyone actually get one and try it yet.

Thanks Lead. I guess I will just keep the compressor for now, but keep my eyes open for one.

Hey, and I know that you are running an H.O. head on a Renix block. I would be interested in knowing what it takes to convert. Any writeup on here? I have searched quite a bit but didn't see anything.

I ended up finding one on an 89 MJ! Picked it up for $15. I won't be able to put it on for a few weeks though as my free time is limited and somehow little jobs always take me 4x longer than they should on my Jeep.

The pulley on the bracket is smaller than the one on the A/C compressor. Will this change the slack in the serpentine belt?

Nice score!

Their are 2 separate serp. belts used. You'll need to go get one for the 4.0L wo/AC as the one you have is to long.

I am kinda in a pickle tho. I just bought a new serp. belt and am in the process of putting it on along with a new alternator bracket, b/c mine broke. I am leery of trying to tackle the a/c delete because I know as always something is gonna cause it to take longer.

So do I put on the new belt and alt bracket and wait on the a/c causing me to buy a new belt in the near future or do I return the belt and try to tackle the a/c too? A question I can only answer myself I guess.

I decided to grow a pair and take of the A/C compressor off this morning. I ended up just cutting all the hoses. I will work on removing all the extra stuff later. The delete bracket is now on and I will be returning the a/c serp belt I bought earlier and exchanging it for a non-a/c serp belt.

I will post results once finished, however I can tell you I am trimming some fat off the XJ... that compressor is heavy!

Finished.

I feel I got three benefits from this:

1. Lost weight.
2. Gained power. Not much but I can feel it.
3. Have a lot more room in the engine bay.

For $15, it might be one of my more favorite mods.

My AC clutch is dead (you can see a spark in the mechanism when I turn the AC on but it wont turn, and it makes no funny noises).

I've been debating a new AC clutch (is it possible? or a whole fricken compressor?) or get a idler pulley and dump the AC stuff.
