My alternator went out and I decided to upgrade. I looked around and found that an alternator from a '97-'98 V8 ZJ is 136amp compared to the 90amp from my stock. With the recent addition of offroad lights and the hope of a system in the future I figured this was a good upgrade. To do this on a Renix XJ you need an alternator bracket from an HO XJ, a shorter serp belt(mine is 98in but I also have an A/C delete bracket), and a voltage regulator from an old Ford truck(AutoZone knew what I was talking about) it needs to have the terminals I A S F. Your HO bracket may need to be ground to fit the larger alternator, but mine fit. The wiring goes as follows: the power out(red one) wire bolts on pretty much the same way to the alternator, there is one pair of field termials on the back about 1.5in apart one goes to ground and the other goes to F on the regulator, the yellow wire from the stock plug goes to A, and S goes to an accessory wire, I is unused on the regulator. My headlights seem a little brighter after the mod. The pics are of the HO bracket and the ZJ alternator. I forgot to take more, but I will try to add some later.
