Drivers Door Module and Power Window problems

I posted somewhere that I needed to get around to repairing the typical XJ power window problem.  Also, mentioned that I wasn't in a hurry.  Well I finally got around to it.  What I wanted to say is that the best writeup on this issue that I found was the the Jeep Forums site :  http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/power-window-switch-repair-writeup-444977/?referrerid=59358
There is also a good writeup on how to take the door apart, on the sire :  http://jeepforum.com/forum/f11/fixing-97-window-lock-switch-dummies-459934/
In case you aren't familiar with the problem it's when all your windows function correctly form the drivers door (DDM) but the window switches do not function on the individual doors, rear drivers and both passenger side.
Most will just tell you to splice a wire between the tan and yellow wires.   This write up actually disassembles the switch.  The problem with mine was that the terminal for the yellow wire had either a cold solder joint or was stressed to the point where it was making intermitten contact, usually no contact.  Just resoldering that terminal resolved the problem.smile

So in case you were not aware of this info, this is FYI .

The other problem that I experienced was that the spring contacts on the switches didn't always make good contact.  So if you are having problems with the switches on the Drivers Door being intermittent, this may also be a problem.  I believe that this may be because when things start working intermittently that people may tend to force the switch harder, down or up, in response and eventually the springs stop making contact from bending.  I had to carefully test mine and when I found a side that didn't work, I believe top right on each switch is window down and bottom left is window up (but it may be the inverse),  I had to go in a carefully bend the spring contact down a bit more.  I also noticed that these contacts can get quite hot when engaged, I had quite a bit of carbon buildup on the contacts and on the switches themsleves.  There were also slight signs of the plastic melting on some of the contact pads, which there are 4 of for each switch.

Just another thing to look out for.confuse
