i need new shocks, any recommendations?

i measured for shocks today and for the front im looking at 24/25 extended and 18" or so collapsed. for the rear i can mount the shocks about level with the frame which would be 18 extended and 14 collapsed. or i could mount them on top of the u bolt plate and then make a hoop in the wheel well which would be around 24 extended and 16 collapsed.

now I've been looking at 3 different shocks

bbsc 11" travel shocks

bilstein 5150 10" travel shocks

bilstein 7100 10" travel with reservoir short body

the 5150's and the bbcs are around the same price, but have read that bbcs are valved more toward Toyota's

i already have shock tabs for the rear but ruffstuff sells u bolt plate shock mounting tabs

4" of travel? That doesn't seem right. Maybe I am not understanding something. Personally I would just run something cheap like RC in the correct travel length. Call RC, they have shocks for tons of different applications. With your long arms and the angle of your shackles, I bet your ride is pretty sweet already. I have never run a 'nice' shock though. If you are dead set on spending money go Bilstein.

I have Motion Off Road Long Travel shocks and they were a huge upgrade from the Rough Country shocks.  I have never spent the money on Premier shocks so I don't know what I am loosing but I am happy with them.

Part of it depends on how much lift you have, the part numbers in the book are for stock ride height. While they may work, they may not work right.

from BDS (quality maker of aftermarket lifts)
Application** year **lift **PN for front** PN for rear
Cherokee XJ **84-01 **0"-2"** 55979** 55972
Cherokee XJ **84-01 **3"** 55965 **55980
Cherokee XJ** 84-01** 4.5"** 55965** 55974
Cherokee XJ** 84-01 **6.5"** 55961** 55920

Also, grab some new hardware... chances are the mounting bolts- especially up top at the rear- are junk.  Installing the new ones I fishwired them through (so threads stuck down through bolt holes) and I fit the end of a wrench over the head to hold it, and used a ratchet to tighten down the nut.

Bilstein 5100's are the best bang for the buck shock on the market today. We sell aprox 200 5100's a month and it seems like all our customers are very happy with them.
