I was looking for some ideas on some XJ hood vent for my XJ , saw alot of louver and vent styles , they looked very nice but you had to deal with water and snow dripping on the eng.....Ran acrossed this "Screw-Out Hood Vent" style witch is,nt very fancy but it's cheap and will fit my needs...will be installing them very soon one on each side....I thought I would share it for anybody thinking of installing hood vents.
water dripping on engine will not hurt it... on my focus i ran evo style cf hood.. had really big vents and never had any problems with it.. only thing is makes engine little more dirty. but its a jeep so that doesnt really matter
Depending on your how your eng. configured and where the vent are , perlonged water drippage into the eng. compartment on on certain eng. electrical components when sitting , could cause corrosion or damage...Chance I don't whant to take....wound'nt really worry if I was living in a dry state...
Even though it's "Just a Jeep" , so that doesnt really matter for some people it's there daily driver , pride and joy and there money pit...they want to keep around for a while......
I have to agree about doing the hood vent thing, it has always concerned me a lil bit having water fall directly ontop of where it normally wouldnt. I have been considering hood vents and have not yet for that very reason. I am looking for some now that have a drip pan, or are able to route water away from elec components.

No reason you cound'nt...I just like the idea of being to control the amount of water going into the eng compartment.....i posted the screw in vents as an ildea that fits my need .... venting on hot summer days driving , running at the dunes and trail riding (having the winch up front it tends to run alittle hot)....if I'm playing in the mud or water they will be screwed in...hate to see what louvers and drip pan would look like after playing in a mud hole...just sometime else to keep clean...but thats just my 2 cents....
you make a great point, thats why i still have yet to do mine, have not found a design i REALLY like or am 100% comfortable with. do you think you will notice any differance with just the holes?

I look at it this way, something is better than nothing......
I assume that's your Xj that's all muddy above? Have you eliminated the mech fan? I know that the mech fan throws far more water/mud around the engine bay than a couple little vents allowing rain to drip in...
I don't see a problem from top vents after all I put my XJ through from underneath... maybe you could jus tposition them over the sides of the engine.
le baron turbo vents work well, they also make custom hoods that look like a 2" cowl induction... also I found semi truck louver vents for a mack for cheap on ebay... didn't buy em though. Not into the chrome-bling thing. I like it to look stock, but perform better ;) muahahahah sleepers are great.
