Painting Rock Rails

Just got JCR Rock rails and they don't have any paint on them.  I'm open for suggestions on how to paint them; primers, paint brands, etc.  Let me know what you have done in the past, or would do in hinesight (sp?).

Use an etching primer (not just a normal primer). This can be purchased from Napa (around $12 a can though).

Once primed, I used a Krylon textured finish and was happy with the results. Here is a photo of what the finish looks like.

Thanks. How many coats do you think that I will need?

I always do 2 coats of primer, than 3-4 of paint depending on how well the finish looks. First coat of paint is thing, second 2 (coat 2 and 3) are more thick, and than the 4th coat is a final thin coat for finish.
