Looking for opinions on which all terrain tire is the best.
I received a call from where I used to work about a position they had opening up. It is the position I had there for 12 years, and I accepted their offer. GOOD BYE Mike sells!!! I MIGHT be able to make some of the wheeling events now!
The reason I'm asking about all terrain tires is, I might be traveling some to the surrounding states. Not alot, but possibly some. I'm going to have to compromise some as far as tires are concerned. Mud tires aren't really the way to go for longer distances, but I still want to be able to wheel it some.
I will have to make do with the TrXus I have for now, but probably will buy a set of AT tires in the spring. What would you all recommend, BFG's? I know Discount Tire has TA all terrain's in 31" for $119 apiece.
i was reading today that Interco has a new one called the STS. supposed to be pretty good ride. their saying it's pretty good all around. i haven't priced it yet though.

CURRENTLY: 2001 Cherokee Limited 4-dr, 33" Uniroyal Liberator A/Ts, 6-8" well built custom lift (sorry, i haven't measured yet).
SOLD: Project Rig: 87 Cherokee Pioneer 4dr. bone stock now. coming soon: 3" budget lift, go completely doorless and chop the rear cargo area out.
i really dont like the tread pattern on the BFG a/t ta's... never have been to partial to them... i bought a set of uniroyal liberators (on the cheaper end of the spectrum) and they love the mud.. i've been in some deep **** with my xj, and they tear right on through it.. i should've gotten the LT's, and gotten the 15/32nd's tread depth out of em, but even with the P's, and 13/32, they still kick pretty good ass for being as cheap as they are.. havent tried em on much rocky crap, but in wet muddy situations, they're great for what you pay.

Could always go with OTR Hitech Retreads, if you are wanting to stay with MT and want them cheap. They are loud though on the road. Just an option.
Also you could just get a cheap set of rims or something and put you MT's on them for wheeling. Then by some AT's and use them for daily driving. Then you could still have MT's for events and not loose the rubber because of all the street driving. Just another option.

I miss the days that they made toys that could kill a kid.
Congrats Kim! I know it's been a long time coming for you.
I'm going to assume you'll keep your Truxs for wheeling?
If you want something that's going to last a long time, I'd go with the BFG AT's. Yes they are not the cheapest tire on the market, but they are proven and last.

Thanks Adam. Yes it HAS been a LONG time coming... 6 years, 5 months, and 15 days... to be exact. Finally going to be doing something I enjoy again. Happy happy, joy joy!
I'll have to see where I'm at as far as keeping the TrXus for wheeling. If I do I'll have to buy another set of wheels too. I know the BFG's are a good tire, and last quite awhile. I didn't think $119 apiece for 31" tires was too bad. Like I said I'm not going to do anything at least until spring. I got around pretty good with the Yokohama Geolander's AT's I had before the TrXus. Might look at set of them too.
1. what bumper/grille guard do you have firehawk? It looks really good. (in other words, I want it for my Jeep) 2. check out this tire review thread out, feel free to contribute also!
p.s. my manager swears by Nokian Vativa (they're from Finland) tires... says he can't get himself stuck in his stock tahoe, and they're good on the street. http://www.nokiantire.com/en/tire_vatiiva.aspx
The bumper/guard is a Warrior Rock Crawler bumper. I liked the looks of it, and the fact it comes back around and protects the bottom of the front fenders. If you are looking for a bumper that will bounce off trees and rocks the Warrior bumper is NOT for you. It is not the heaviest duty bumper out there. The mounting brackets are not very thick metal. It's not really wimpy, but it is NOT an ARB bumper. But it didn't cost as much either.
All that being said, IMO it looks good, and since my XJ is my DD, and I have NO intentions of bouncing it off trees and rocks, the Warrior bumper is fine for me.
BTW, I think Adam has one of these bumpers on either his XJ, or MJ. Without the brush guard though.

-open a new browser window (for firefox I open a new tab, Ctrl+t), copy the www.whateveritsays.com and paste in the appropriate spot and hit go. The MTs look wicked, but I'm not going to personally run them on a DD, especially with driving 50+ miles a day on a regular basis. My boss has the ATs, and that's what he was referring to about 'not being able to get himself stuck' firehawk wrote:

Hmmm... I like the looks of it, similar to the JCR stage1 bumper I am lookin g into and the grille guard (once agian I ask who made it) finishes it off nicely. I don't plan on using my XJ as a trail rig anytime soon, being a DD and all, most of what I'd hope to run into is likely tall weeds and light brush at the most. Heck, I try to avoid branches to keep mine from getting scratched (it's in really good shape for a 96, if it were a beater, I wouldn't care).

Not sure if your asking me but, the brush guard is part of the Warrior bumper. The bumper can be bought with or without it, but the guard is not sold seperately. At least I don't think it is.
The bumper is made by Warrior Products out in Oregon. All of their parts are made in the USA, by the way. No Chinese crap!
I've been pretty happy with my Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revo's. They are nice and quiet on the highway, ride and grip very nicely on wet/dry pavement, and do OK in everything except mud. Course, the only time I got stuck was in some of that soupy, slick clay mud we have here in the Fort....
Only thing I'm not happy about is treadwear. These are supposed to be a very long-lasting tire...but I've heard others complaining about excessive treadwear as well......
*edit*
On the other hand....I had a set of Goodyear Wrangler SR-A's on my s-10...those were some awesome, sticky tires. Only ran them for 2-3k miles before selling the truck, but they were pretty good in the snow/mud. The wife has the Wrangler RT-S (discontinued) on her Blazer...she seems to be happy with the snow/street performance, but that Blazer isn't worth a damn off-pavement. It must be too pretty...
