We've had good luck with the cheapo one at WalMart. It's a name brand (cobra), and has a warranty. I think they are right around $40. I run it in my MJ as well as Rebecca's XJ. Doesn't do everything my high dollar Cobra in my XJ does, but it gets the job done on the trail just fine.
no, a CB is basically useless with out an antenna. Also, you dont ever want to key up the mic without an antenna attached cause it can damage the radio.
I was always told to go cheap with the radio, but spend good money on an antenna. I would recommend something with a tunable tip.
I have 2 CBs; a Midland 1001z got for $40 at walmart, great radio, had PA and dedicated CH9;and a Cobra 18SWXT, weather band is great and it was only $60 at walmart.

Man I wish I would have seen this earlier today. I have a brand new Firestick antenna laying at home. It is still in the box. I wasn't thinking when I bought the CB for my Crown Vic and I bought a Firestick on accident because I was already buying one for the Jeep.
I have had 2 CB's in 2 different XJ's and have only used a Firestick antenna. I have had no problems with the reception on either one. The nice thing about a Firestick is that they will not break like other antennas; supposedly I have been told that you can touch them tip to tip without them breaking. I have not had the guts to try it because it does not seem as though it could.
Anyways if you want the firestick that I have I would be willing to let it go cheap seeing as how I have no use for 2 of them. I don't know how much they are worth but I think that the biggest problem will be that I am 2hrs away from you.
