how hard would it be for me to replace my rear axle bearings? i'm plenty capable of 90% of the work that needs to be done on my jeep, i'm just wondering if anyone's had the pleasure and if it's gonna be a pain in the ass or not.. i'm almost 100% positive those suckers are where most of my rear axle noise is coming from, so i'd like to replace them first and see what happend before i worry about anything in the diff...
also, anything else i'd need other than a pair of bearings, a pair of axle seals, a diff cover gasket, some gear lube, and a case of beer?
i'm kind of worried that if it is actually the axle bearings, and they're as bad as they are from how they sound and how long i've driven it sounding like that if it's possible the axle shafts might be scored or messed up in any way? is that possible?

I did axle seals last summer, not too bad, they're a little challenge to get back into the axle tube straight. Took a couple hours and not bad at all. Helps to have a helper. I used this http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoAxleSeal.htm as a guide, and it helped a lot. I consequently made this writeup... http://greatlakesxj.activeboard.com/index.spark?forumID=43793&p=3&topicID=12213333
armed with information and a hopefully attractive assistant (such as a girlfriend) it should go pretty smooth for you. I only needed help in removing axles, I think they need to be pushed in slightly when removing the c-clips, or pulled out. Otherwise it's mostly a one man operation.
