Pre wired ???

My 96 XJ did not come with the factory fog lights, it is a "Country" model tho. Does anyone know if the wiring harness is in place or would you have to add it to the existing harness when adding the lights. I found the factory switch set up at the junk yard but haven't started the install yet.   Thanks in advance.

there is a plug at the center of the front crossmember, that i believe is for the fog lights. then if u go to the blank "switch", there should be the wiring for the fogs, depending on what year you have. so i believe all XJs are prewired

I believe the Country has 2 options. You can use the fog lights together with the main headlights. i.e. when you switch on the headlamps the fog lights come on too. A connector for the fog lights is available nxt to the headlamps.

You can also decide to use an independent system and a separate switch for the fog lights. The switch is pre-installed on teh dash together with part of the cable and the connector. However, I think the cabling is not complete because you need to add a relay at the power distribution centre to complete the system for an independent fog/sport lights system.

I hope you got the 96 FSM in cd or file download and not hard copy. That way I can gladly share the spoils with you coz I need the 96 manual and cant get a downloadable copy anywhere. Plz confirm if you got a soft copy of the manual then we can figure out how to share the file...... idea

After another day in the scrap yard, I find it looks as tho a different front harness is used on 95' and up. The fog connections come from each side by the head light plug in's. I saw a few older models with a central plug behind the bumper. It seemed to vary with a couple of model years. ?????

I can now confirm that the fog lights for 96 country are pre-wired. Indeed they are not just pre-wired but they do work. The rear fog lights actually work when the switch next to the rear defogger is switched on. However the switch must be used in conjunction with the switch for the main headlights. That is if the headlights are off the fog lights cannot come on even if you switch them on. For some strange reason the front fog lamps are not installed from the factory. The connectors are however vailable next to the main lamps so you only need to install the fog lights, connect and you are done.

The rear fogs are part of the tail lights. the lowest part of the tail lights i think. You only need to confirm that the bulbs are connected. to test plz switch on the fog lamp switch as well as the main lights. you will notice extra bright lighting at the tail lights other than the usual rear park lights.
