On way to work today, i noticed the i couldnt really hear the fan blowing, so i turned it up to 3, nothing, then 4, and i could hear it, Looks like it is only working on 4, Great, Still plenty of winter togo, Is this a easy fix, like some new part or something ??? I need my heat.
chris look into the blow motor resistor. this maybe the problem. Mine just stopped working on my 90 sunday also. I checked my fan motor and that works, but as far as I have gone. Have to make space in garage to get in.
So i get my part @ 1:00 p.m.. I get home after work , I look all over for this Blower Motor Resistior, I dont see anything like the part i just baught anywhere. I get out all the books i have and still dont see this thing. But then i notioce something similar. i take out the 2 screws, pull it out. Clean it all up. plug it back in, And then my fan starts to work on all 4 setting's. So come to find out , NAPA has the wrong BMR listed in there computer. This part from NAPA was $ 65.41 total. So i went to the stealer deal. ( dodge dealer ) here in town. The man get one from the back, brings it to me, and WAMMO. It is the thing i puuled out and cleaned. $ 45.00 buck's from the dealer. Lesson i learned. Dont believe the HYPE. NAPA aint all that. Dealer is not always the most money. Just glad to have the heat blowing on the winshield do to all of the freezing drizzle i got last night.
My fan was dying out, and by the time I replaced it (the bearings were seized on it) I think I burned up the resistor as well. Now I have a junkyard fan ($15, works great) and high or off as far as speeds are concerned. I've survived since late autumn. Waiting for warmth to dig into it.

Just wanted to show some pic's of what the part looked like, And where it was on my XJ.
Here is what the Blower Motor Resistor look's like where the plug go's in to help you indentafi it.
You can see mine was pretty dirty and rusty, Why i have no idea, It is a 1999.
Here is the area it is located on mine, Up under the dash, Behind the Glove Box. All i had to do was remove 2 screw's that held a little kick pannel. Then 2 screw's that hold in the Resistor.
Hope this might help someone, It sure would have helped me out.
Glad you got it fixed - from my older heater post, I believe that is what actually caused my problem as well, just haven't replaced it yet. Heck I thought mine was expensive at 28 bucks they quoted me - guess not.
