What do you all think of welding the spider gears in the rear? Since my xj is just a trail rig and don't really want to drop a whole lot into it was thinking of doing this. Just something cheap that will work for what my rig is made for. Tell me what you all think of this idea.
Thanks, Ben

Ive heard that unless you get a really good weld, the welds will pop loose and then the fun starts. If you do it, make sure you get a good, deep weld in every spot you can.
Personally, i would (depending on your rear end) get either a mini spool, or an Aussie locker. Both are very simple to install and no chance of welds coming loose and destroying your gears.
Edit to add: Mini-spools are generally around $100, some times more sometimes less. The Aussie is right around $250 and streetable too.

I know welding them is a cheap and easy solution, HOWEVER I wouldn't do it.
As stated you can get a spool or a budget locker (Aussie) for not a lot of money. Just about everyone I've ever talked to who welded the spiders says that they regret doing so after the fact.

To the best of my knowledge nobody makes a spool or a minispool for the 8.25".
Also, Aussie's been saying that they will have a locker for the 8.25" availalbe "soon" for 2 years now. To date they still have not came out with it yet...
lock right has them for the 8.25. Its there powertrax system. They have them in the Quadrdtec catalog pg 59 @ $434.99. kind of pricey but cheaper than others
