RE: MystickfireXJ's Jeep Build!!!!

You should never re-use u-bolts on the axle. They are designed for 1 time use, once they are undone you should always put new one's on.

Also if you need a grinder, I have one you can borrow....

I busted 2 of the 4 bolts off for the axle so will be buying all new ones anyways.  I can just pick those up from the hardware store correct?

I am going to go get nicks air tools here probably tomorrow, need to find a compressor nick's is to big to move.

Once I get the leafs on (hopefully tomorrow) then it can be driven somewhere to do the rest if other people would like to help.

I know Advance and Autozone used to stock U-bolts, but don't know if they still do. I imagine Fastenall would have them also as well as just about any other type of bolt you'd need. I consider myself lucky to have a shop a mile down the road that specializes in semi truck brakes and suspension, but also does other stuff like hydraulics and the like. They custom made me new U bolts for $4.75 a piece. I specialize the length and diameter and they made them. Actually, I just gave them one of the old ones to match.

When I needed a new spring through bolt because I busted one on my F-100 they measured the length and diameter and gave me a handful out of a 5 gallon bucket for free. I only needed one!

Just a little update for everyone.  I got the visors in the mail yesterday from xjryder.  They look really good installed.  I want some for my own.  Thanks for the support.  I will get pics.

The leafs...evileye  I got the passenger side leafs cut completely off.  I did the passenger side first because the front bolt would at least move.  Well now it just spins, not in or out, just spins....   I have to cut the rubber portion of the bushing off (didn't have any blades), other then that everything is off.  So I am thinking that it is stripped out inside the unibody.  Does that seem to make sense, or if I take the rubber bushing off is it going to magically come out and fix itself?  How does one go about installing the new leafs with the bolt stripped out?  Thanks.  Wanted to have this thing driving by the jeep jam.  Don't know anymore.

If the bolt is just turning and not coming out you've broken the welded nut on the inside of the frame rail.

Only solution is to drill a hole from the cargo area in that exact location and put a wrench on it now. It's not a fun job....

What i did on mine was to cut a small section out from under the welded nut big enough to get a wrench up there. I ended up just cutting the bolt on either side of the leaf pack and just using a new bolt. That might also be an option for you.

That is what I am going to do.  I don't want to cut a hole in the floor...

I wanted to have the back half of this done for the Jeep Jam, but that is not going to happen.  It will feel weird owning one Jeep and having another one in the drive and I will be showing up to the Jeep Jam in a Toyota prolly  evileye

Well I got the bolt out for the leafs tonight at 8:30.  So I think awsome I can go and get 2 more at Lowe's because they don't close till 9PM.  Only to find out that the only night that they are not open till 9 is Sunday...  Always works out that way.

So I go back, disapointed, and figure I will take the shock bolt out that I busted off.  Only busted one off, didn't think that was to bad considering that the last time I think that we broke 3 of 4.  Have an easy out, so I figure I can just drill a hole and out it will come.  Well now I have a broken bolt AND an easy out!!! doh Makes me want to bite my front sites....  censored.gif So done for the night.

I did get the bolt out though on the passenger side, and I got the headlights installed.  smile They look great, thank you Matrix for donating those.

Andy, I think you may have forgotten to factor in the "Beauchot Factor". I know you have been around my family enough to know that if anything can go wrong while working on something... it will. You must always factor that in. Wish I was there to help. Good Job so far and Good luck! Thanks again for doing all this and thanks for everyone who has contributed in some way, it means a lot to me.
