I am looking for info as to whether the generic on-board diagnostics scan tools work with obdII compliant xjs. Mine is a 96. Would the generic scan tools available in the market be a proper substitute for the factory Diagnostics Readout Box (DRB). I am thinking of purchasing the Elm Scan USB scan tool ( http://www.scantool.net/products/product_info.php?cPath=8_6&products_id=45&osCsid=362867fd3241dbc45a2189300266468d ) to be used in conjuction with a laptop/pda but would greatly appreciate members input in this before making an order thereof.
