AC Prob

When I first start my jeep whether it be cold/or warmed up the AC blows cold for about 5 minutes then warm air comes out the vents. After 10 minutes or so of driving it'll blow cold again...kinda cycles on and off  at random intervals while cruising. Anyone ever hear of this problem ...?

Thanks for any suggestions.

possiably have air in the system? Sounds like the coolant (for lack of better term) isn't cycling threw correctly (thus the hot air). Air in the system may cause it to do that?

I can't say I'm an AC expert; so take it for what it's worth...

I'm not sure... my AC clutch is messed up, when it tries to engage, there's a rather large spark down in the clutch mechanism. But onto your topic, I'd check the refrigerant pressure and recharge as needed, just as lead suggested. Don't let it out into the atmosphere, since I think some shops will pay you to take your old refrigerant, and that's pretty cool.

I had a car that did this exact same thing. I took it to be recharged and they told me that it was fine. They played it off that my car was black so it just doesn't cool as well... imslow.gif Whatever!
It ended up ceasing to blow cold air at all. So, now it has no air conditioner, at least, that works.

That being said, do try to get it fixed, but don't be surprised if you have plenty of refrigerant. Lead's thought of air in the line is probably a good one.

I think it does have plent of freon cause when its blows cold...its cold...it just intermittently cycling on/off...I don't know much about A/C myself...I think what it needs is an evac. then refill...I will take it in when i find some time.

thanks for your replies.

**Update**
Got tired of intermittent AC so I brought her in to the shop...explained what was going on...they did a full evac and recharge...told me the compressor and its pressures were fine...drove it off the property...same problem...brought her back in looked at the compressor more...diagonosed it to be the compressor coil...Took it home did some research ....

grabbed the Samden manual online took apart the front of the compressor..clutch assemble..cleaned all the gunk off...there was only one shim I took it off(online suggestion)...reassembled everything and works like a champ...I know this is most likely a temporary fix..when it breaks again I'll most likely replace the clutch assembly and coil...
