What tooth speedo gear do i need?

I lost the formula to figure out what tooth speedo gear i need. I have the maxxis bighorns (35s) with 4.88s. is that back to a stock gear? if so does anyone have one that they could possibly get to me before saturday?

thanks a ton

Brendan

I have the stock gear in my tool box if you want it.  I will have to count the teeth on it, but it is green.  I think that they were color coated by the number of teeth.  Let me know.  Also if you want it by Sat., I don't know.  Why do you need it by saturday.  Just keep the gear in it that is there now, and replace it when you get on.  It is as simple as taking one bolt out and pulling the gear out. Takes about five min.  Here is a link with a chart that tells you how many teeth you want on your gear and how to change the gear.  According to this you need a gear with 39 teeth:

From the chart that I always looked at 4.88's with 35 should get you close to stock gearing.  This is the chart that I always refered to.  There is one on the Tech of this site, but I could not get it to open...

The one that I have is 36 teeth, or 34 I forget now.  But it wasn't what you needed I know that.  If yours is further off then that and you do want mine let me know and I will send it to you.

You want a 39 tooth gear with your combo.

The outside of the gear housing has number ranges embossed on the side, when you put the housing back into the t'case, it needs to be installed such that the number range containing your gear's tooth count is aimed down and to the back. There are notches in the housing that the retainer plate hooks into to ensure the housing is oriented correctly and doesn't shift once the retainer plate is installed.

Along the same lines as Adam's post, if you put it in and the speedo doesn't work, loosen it up and rotate that alignment that Adam is talking about until the gears touch.  It took me a couple of tries before I got mine to line up and work.

I don't think that there will be any problems.  I didn't have any...

All the housings are the same. All you have to do is rotate the housing to the desired selection (the housing will have numbers on it) and re-install it. No need for a new housing. When you pull it off you'll understand...
