If your trying to homebrew one than, yes you would have to change your shocks. Give Motion Offroad a call. They can set you up with what you need.

If looking to purchase a new one, usually manufactures have a shock listed for the kit.

I've heard Grand Cherokee shocks work for smaller lifts like that, but I have not tried that myself.

I like bilstein shocks, maybe it's spelled blisten. They provide a firm ride and good handling (considering it's a Jeep) without being harsh. Maybe Motion offers them?

When you say "without changing anything" what do you mean? There are several things that should be addressed at this height if you want to lift your XJ correctly.

And yes, at 3" of lift you need to address your shocks.

Let us know if we can be of any further help! smile

Ok maybe I am misinformed. I was told to lift front 3'' using a spring spacer. And lifting the rear 2 1/2' with add a leafs. Doing this would level my XJ out and I wouldnt have to change anything but maybe the shocks. I am doing a cheap lift for now so I can fit 31's on aftermarket rims. Then later when I have more cash I can get a good lift. I guess I need to know what else I might need to address by doing this lift?

Not sure where your getting your info, but I'd be hesitant to trust your source.

3" is a rather large coil spacer. It's so large infact that you'll not have much safe room for your coil and will most likely drop your coil (it will fall out) with just a little bit of flex. We don't recommend running anything more than 2" of spacer on the front of the XJ/MJ. A coil spacer is not the correct solution to achieve 3" of lift in the front.

You should also really consider using an adjustable trackbar with 3" of lift as well.

Here is a cheap 3" lift that uses coils and an AAL. http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=481

my tip is to not skimp on your lift...sure it will look better with the bigger lift and tires but how will it ride? no one will want to ride in it with a spacer and AAL lift. go right off the bat with a solid well know kit and quality parts like a full pack 3.5" Rubicon Express lift with full packs, superflex LCAs, adjustable trac bar, and twin tube shocks.

this is just what ive learned in my experience. i have ridden in jeeps with 3"s of lift and spacers, stock LCAs, etc and it almost mushed my brains in. just my opinion though
