1996 XJ for sale. $3000.00

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport
4.0L H.O. I6
148,000 miles
Automatic
Power windows/locks
CD Player
JCR Offroad front bumper
3.5" Rubicon Express Lift
31" BFG AT's
15" AR 767's
Slip Yoke Eliminator included but not installed
Off Road lights (to mount on front bumper) included but not installed
New starter
New headlights
Whatever change is left in the ash tray :)

Reason for selling: I honestly had a hard time coming to this decision and my wife isn't to happy with it. This jeep has been with me since before we got married and has never given us a problem. I have only replaced the water pump and the drivers seat (I'm 6"1' 370 lbs. You do the math) which currently needs replaced...again. It's as reliable as can be. I used it as my DD for over 3 years with he lift for over 2 years. The tires are still in good condition. We have 2 other vehicles that we are paying on and my Passat broke down and I don't have the money to fix it. I also just started back to college after leaving 5 years ago. Her Jetta also has some minor things that could use a little TLC and I am just not going to have the time or the money to fully make this what I wanted it to be. I love this Jeep and hope it goes to a good home...or at least a home where someone enjoys tearing it up. :) The interior isn't in bad shape with the exception of the drivers seat (as mentioned) and the cover on the console. It's there but it just rests on top.

Other than that I personally love this XJ and was hoping to fix those minor things, install the lights and SYE along with a snorkel and go all out with it. I just can't do that right now with both of us trying to get our degrees. Mayeb some day.

If you have questions or are interested post here and/or email me at rnelson@ohiochristian.edu.

Very nice looking XJ.   Where are you located?   Good luck with the sell.

The XJ is a a bit out of my reach but might be able to help with a couple things.

Check out Passatworld.com and VWVortex.com. A ton of info and DIY stuff for the VW's. You would be surprised what you would be able to fix yourself for just the price of the parts and the time. Also a big base of people who know how to work on them and are always willing to help another out if you can not or do not think you can do yourself.

Which ever you want it to be. :)

Honestly I think its a 231 but I'd be lying if I said it was for sure. I can check...if you tell me how. :)

As you can see I only had the lfit put on and was just getting into Jeeping when funds ran out....a.k.a. marriage and college crept in.

I know more about a 1992 Toyota Tercel than I do my Jeep unfortunately. Back in my younger days a FWD or AWD Turbo'd compact, Supra, RX7, or a Buick GN held my interest. I have always loved Jeeps and big trucks so when my friend rolled my Tercel the Jeep took its place and my love for all things Jeep began to grow.

To find out you would need to look under the truck. On the transfer case there will be a metal circle attached, should be red and white. It will say what it is and some other info on it. Believe it will be on the side closest, or facing the rear axle.

Or just look at the shift panel.

NP231 - 2H - 4H - N - 4L

NP242 -
2wd - 4part-time - 4full-time - N - 4low

So in other words, the 242 has the 4wd part-time option.

Oh sure Adam, just show off aww
Did not even think about that aspect, okay okay, I was clueless. Guessing this was also the TC they used in the ZJs (242) Well at least I learned something hehe. Take Adam's advice, beats the heck out of climbing under the truck lol

i might honestly consider picking it up... my only problem is funding right now... if you have it sitting around for a little while and cant get rid of it i'd definitely go for it once the money's up again..

I had an early (pop up headlight) saturn in high school I modified for speed a bit... used to pick on the ricer kids (usually civics, with a few cavilers and older nonturbo mitsubishi eclipses in there) who thought their subwoofers and stickers made them faster... did pretty good considering ~120hp factory and a couple bolt ons.  Never messed with v8 Camaros or Stangs, though.

Turbo'd early saturns, musclecars (especially Buick/Olds/Pontiac and AMC), IH scouts, big Broncos and Big Blazer/Jimmys (k5), Jeeps and anything rwd in which a v8 is swappable is what I'm into.

I used to do that with my Taurus as well.  Had 3.8 that the heads milled 3 times when rebuilding.  Compression was way up.  Would smoke the ricers and then laugh so hard I couldn't sit up straight because they just got smoked by a baby blue taurus.  haha.  Those were good times.  Parents drive it now, still mine though biggrin.  Might make a come back if I can talk the wife into it.
