i'm not sure what the problem is, so some help would be nice.. i noticed this about a week ago, and found out that one of my u joints was bad up front, so i replaced that tonight, got everything put back together, and i still have this wobble.. the steering wheel moves a good 2" left and right, at a steady speed (kind of like if you leave it in 4wd on semi dry pavement, but it's not as hard and deliberate.. ) had it jacked up, and there's no wheel play, and nothing i noticed while having someone turn the steering wheel.. i can feel some shaking in the brake pedal, but it's very light, and having the brakes on while navigating a turn reduces the problem.. any ideas? if you need any more info, i can provide it, just let me know!

I thought you were going to be gone for a long long time....
....anyway, I'm glad you kept the XJ!
Any how-tos on the front axle universal joints? (I think mine need it done soon)
My XJ has some play in the steering, but tie rods and ball joints check out fine... I think it's the steering shaft ujoints, or steering box.
But, as your XJ has no play when on stands, that's odd.... maybe it has to do with the weight of the Jeep causing some sort of play? I dunno how my steering is with the fronts lifted, so I can't say whether or not I have similar issues or not.
Did you get the ninja out yet? I got mine on the road yesterday, rode 30 miles... today I rode it till the refuel light came on.

I noticed mine doing this a little bit after I took it offroad. I had someone walk the wheels back and forth in the drive way so that could see what was going on and I noticed my track bar was loose at the mount. I used some loc tite and wrenched it back down and wobble went away. Might not be your problem but wouldn't hurt to check it out.

alright, i'll take a look at that stuff.. i ended up getting a '92 century for free chevelle, so the jeep stays for now.. lol i have to replace the ball joints on it, but other than that, thing is great, 25mpg, with a 3.3l and 4spd auto beats the hell out of the jeeps 15 (if that).. lol
also, i fogot to take pics of the driver side, but i'll be doing the passenger side asap, so i'll get a write up on here.. it'll be the long time consuming way (removing the axle shafts) but i think its easier that way anyways.. lol

I'd rather spend a day doing it the easy and right way than swearing and stuff to get it done in an hour or two. easy and right... normally not in the same sentence lol.
