Well I've had my Jeep for a bit over a year now. Came with an aftermarket stereo but I wanted to install the one that I'd had.
Well, until now I couldn't find an install kit that would fit. I got it installed yesterday and WOW! Are all of the stereo systems in the 95ish XJ's this bad? It's almost unbearable to listen to. I cannot have ANY amount of bass whatsoever without it sounding like all the speakers were blown, and the volume can't be too loud either.
I don't usually listen to the radio, but on the occasion that I do, I can't. I get NO reception, is this just the antenna or could there be another reason that I'm not getting any reception.
If possible could someone give me pointers about aftermarket antenna upgrades?
My cousins radio( in his 96) had the same prob with the added headache of an idiot of a PO. The PO cut and spliced in a junk stereo and used masking tape on the connections. I had to get some factory connectors and repair the harness before I could even think about reception. Yes the factory speakers may be junk. Upgrade them. Make sure the antena cable is not pinched or chafed. This would/ may cause bad reception. I had to upgrade my speakers in my 99 as well after I installed a new head unit too. So your not alone.

On the reception side of things it could just be that you antenna is not hooked up properly. That could be a free fix. I would just check it to make sure that it is run properly.

I miss the days that they made toys that could kill a kid.
PartsExpress.com. They have some good wholesale prices on car audio equipment. I just picked up a 1900watt amp for $35. So it might be worth checkin out.
