I hit a pothole and had death wobble when ever I hit 35 and then I drove too work with hazards on in the left hand turn lane lol and then checked my tire rods sway bar steering stabilizers I basically looked at everything then I went out for break and drove it around its perfectly fine. wth? anybody have a clue
If it was just the one time I would say that the pot hole was prob. what caused it. You prob hit the pot hole which put added pressure on your steering. You momentum prob kept the wobble going. So that would explain why when you slowed down it dissapeared.

This death wobble you speak of, its obviously wobble in the steering wheel...? What would stock steering components have to do with it? I am pretty much an XJ novice and vehicle novice for that matter.
DW is a situation where the front axle begins oscillating with such violence that control of the Jeep is difficult until slowed down, and the entire vehicle shakes to the point you feel it will come apart.
It can be caused by many things. Some of the most common are;
- Bad TRE's on the tie rod. - Unbalanced wheels/tires. - Bad bushings in the control arms. - Bad trackbar mount/bushing/tre. - Bad balljoints (not as likely though).
DW is not known to have 1 specific cause, and also can be caused by several things all at once.
If he has lifted his XJ and it still has all the original steering, than the steering components are not at the designed angles. This causes the wobble and play in the steering. If you look at your XJ the bar that goes from tire to tire should be as close to parrallel with the gound as you can get.
Here is a link to the setup that I have on my XJ. You can see how the angles look. It is the black bars.
So the aftermarket steering setup reduces the slack created by the lift? Does it put it back to original steering feel? I understand that having a 90 XJ I probably won't ever get back to the new feeling, but will a kit like the one in the link get me close? Does a steering box brace also help or is that just for structure strength? Thank you Andrew and Adam you guys are super helpful! Sorry for flooding this thread with my own questions.
There have been some people on here that have gotten the Steering Brace, and say that it helps with the slack in the steering wheel. I don't think that it would help much with DW but it can't hurt. I don't think that they are expensive either. I have not done this to my XJ so this is all third hand info. I will at some point get a steering brace for my XJ but it is not a priority right now.
