B&M Ratchet Shifter

I have been pondering how to make the XJ able to switch from Automatic to Manual after being inspired by this write up on making a AW4 TCU shift Mod.  Here is the link:  LINK

I want to keep it simple but look good.  I was thinking of doing this mod by using a series of toggle switches on the arm rest above the cup holders.  But I want the wife to still drive the XJ and if I put toggle switches and stuff on there, it will probably freak her out....  So then I was thinking of putting another shifter next to the stock one so when I switch the shift mode on I could use an actual shifter.  The only problem is that there is no room except on the passenger side of the Stock shifter; which is a far stretch and awkward.

Then I remembered one of MysticfireXJ's Merkurs with a B&M Ratchet Shifter in it!!! That was just what I was looking for.  The way the shifter works is just like an automatic shifter.  Then if you pull up on the T in front of the shifter it slips into a new position and you can now tap back on the shifter up through the gears and tap forward on the shifter to down shift through the gears.

Went to their website and found this shifter.  Looks like what I want and says that it will work for Chyrsler trucks and SUV's.  Here is the link:  LINK

So what do you guys think?  I have never heard of one of these in an XJ so I don't know.  Has anyone seen one in an XJ somewhere?  It is not something that I can afford right now, but if it can be done, will be put on the wish list.

This I think would be the icing on the cake for me.  I LOVE manuals, the wife doesn't know how to drive them.  This would give me the oportunity to play with a manual and allow her to drive it as an automatic.  And it would not be Getto Rigged so I won't have to worry about it breaking.  So what are your guys thoughts?

Thanks for posting that Mini Beast.  I had seen pics of those setups on different websites but the website that they had linked to where they had gotten them were no longer websites.

I don't think that I will do the toggle switches for reasons stated above.  But the other rail setups might be an option.  So far I like the B&M the best but it is also double the price... evileye

I like it... I think it'd mount well where the stock parking brake is, and that offers space for more switches (lights?  winch?) and relocate the stock parking brake to the brake pedal using parts from a cash for clunkers victim MJ.
