I just did both of my fronts for the first time in 18 years and they looked just like yours. Heat, 6" vise and a couple old sockets worked like a champ. The vise acted as a press and a small socket pressing on the ujoint end and a large socket on the otherside to give it room to move out. Easy deal, no hammer required... but be ready to hear a loud bang as it breaks free

another problem... melted the plastic 'debris shield' on the axle... hmm... is it necessary? I'm sure it'd help keep trail debris and crap out of the axle...

There are only 3 things necessary in life, Food, Water, and shelter.... Everything else is optional. However, they don't call it a debris shield for nothing If it were me, I'd make, find, or steal another one.

Guys at Naxja said the little 'shields' keep more crap in than they keep out. Mine being 70% intact (a little retarded looking, but its ok) I figure I'll leave it alone, and rinse out the axletubes after every wheeling trip, and every drive in the salt.
