D-Rings with stock bumpers?

Does anyone have a good way of installing D-rings while using the stock bumpers. Need some recovery points on my new XJ but dont have the cash to replace the bumpers yet. Are the stock bumpers strong enough to mount D-rings too? My rig is in the members rigs under My 99 XJ.

All the info I have read suggests that tow points be tied into the frame rails. I have pulled from the stock bumper a couple times by wrapping the strap around, but it would not handle much of a tug.

I have THIS set on my jeep.  I still have the stock bumper and am good.  This is just for the front.  In the rear I have a hitch.  You can buy this set with Rings if that is what you really want, but hooks work fine as well.  If I had to start all over I would put these on the Jeep again.  I have used them extensively to pull OTHERS out, not me, lol... And they are still rocking, a little crooked, but still rocking.  And they are fairly inexpensive.

The important thing is make sure they tie into the frame.  And by tie into the frame, I don't mean bolted to the frame.  They must have multiple bolts attaching them to the frame so when you are YANKED out, and there will come a time when you will be YANKED, they don't just rip the bolts through the frame.

The stock bumper is not strong enough to attach any kind of hook/d-ring setup to. You will need to tie them into the "frame".

The C4x4 as linked above in my opinion is the best kit available on the market. It ties into the frame further back than any other kit; plus includes the "L" bracket on the front to help with side-load pulls. Many of the other kits do not include the side "L" bracket and thus is why they end up bending them.

The C4x4 kit uses tow-hooks and have the little flap included to keep the strap from falling. There is a kit available to attach to the brackets that would allow you to hold a d-ring if you don't want the hooks. Though I've never had any issues running the hooks (plus they don't clang around).

I run the C4x4 kit on all our XJ's & MJ's and have never had an issue with them. I even use the kit as part of my mounting system for the MJ to flat-tow it.

Andy your kit is not a C4x4 kit as yours does not have the side "L" bracket last time I looked at your XJ; I belive your is Rusty's...

http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=IROR&Product_Code=IR-XTHM&Category_Code=PF is what I have.  It mounts with four bolts along the bottom of each frame rail reusing the 2 swaybar bolts and has a cross bar connecting the hooks. The cross bar helps distribute the load and probably helps some of the unibody flex go away. The cross bar was the selling point for me.

A few of how it mounts.

Ya, I know that the one on my current Jeep is not, I was refering to the setup on Nick's, the one that I did myself...

I don't know if it is Rusty's or not but that would not suprise me...

The C4x4 units look nice... the ironrock units look heavier duty with the crossbar, but couldn't you just weld some square stock into the c4x4 with less wallet damage?

And, does the crossbar really aid with strenghening the 'frame' and side-pulls?  Sure it looks like it does, and I can see the side pull help, but I don't think it really strengthens the frame, as most stresses would occur between the axles.
