So I had to come up with a Porject for my Engineering Analysis Class and I also needed to draw up some plans for a Trear tire carrier. So I combined the two and told my Prof I woul dbe making sure the steel is strong enough and I would have to follow certain design criteria. Anyways I came up with a cool design I think. I use Pro-E and I love the Program it makes AutoCAD seem liek real drafting with paper and pencil. So yeah comments are welcome

Seems like an awful lot of load on the piviot mount. I like the design but I would think it would need another support (or at least a gusset) to take some load off the hinge. I do like the fact that the tire will be direclty behind the driver, thus you may be able to see out the rear better. Additionally I like that you could possiably put a high-lift on it and not have to point it straight up.
Looks good! I also think they look good when the tire has some tilt to follow the window tilt.
Ive always wondered why does everyone hinges these on the right? I too would want the tire behind the driver, so why not hinge on the left? Would be less leverage on the hinge.

Well if you were ever in traffic and opened it up a big truck would come take your Jeep away. And usually when you open you hatch you want to be able to get it in there so you nee to open it pretty wide hence why you mount it on the right
