I was at an alignment shop today, and they said my trackbar was worn out and needed replaced before I get any alignments. I was planning on a lift kit anyway, so I guess this is the ideal time to do so... right now 2" (looks ok on stock rubber) and 3" later when it's not a DD.
Is the shop full of crap? I don't understand how they 'wear out'.
Is it better for me to get an adjustable trackbar now, or go with a stock replacement?
The front pass tire had more tread worn on the 'outside' than the 'inside'. I rotated them over the weekend and that's when I noticed the tire wear... it won't hurt anything riding on the back axle, will it?
(possibly wanted: adjustable trackbar... let me know what you have and give me your best deal vendors!)

it is very possible, how many miles are on your truck? i had to replace mine at 155k, it was worn and in bad shape... i went with the TNT one with the HD bracket, i would reccomend it, very nice piece, get an adjust. one now, y pay double if you plan on upgrading later. do it right the first time
The problem with a lot of the adjustable one's on the market is that they are rated at 3"+ for lift. Like the TNT setup, it's not rated for anything less than 4" of lift. The RE 1600 is rated at 3" and up, but is junk and I'd highly recomend staying away from it. The RE 1660 (HD) is probally overkill and not worth spending the $$ on unless your once again at 4.5" or above.
JKS makes an extreamly nice unit, and one for 2"-4" of lift. It's priced at $240 but can be had for less elsewhere.
Thier are a few others on the market, but most are only rated for at least 4" of lift.
Another alternative is to just replace the end and bushing of your stock unit. Most auto parts stores should sell the bushings and end that you could replace your unit for.
I got the JKS adjustable trackbar, and a Rusty's 2" BB for $95 shipped to me off a member at JU. He got the kit and didn't install before he sold it.
I'm thinking the highest my XJ will ride is 3" over XJ UpCountry stock, so the JKS was the perfect part for my needs. Maybe I'll send them an email telling them to support this site. -Matt
EDIT: I'll try to do a writeup, or at least take pics of the installs. Let's hope I have no driveline vibes! At least I have some $$ for new u-joints if I do have some (I've read that lifts can 'expose' worn ujoints and new ones can help a bit.)

Thats a heck of a deal on the JKS trac bar. In my opinion it's probally the nicest one on the market for a lift less than 4.5".
I got the stock trackbar still; with the Rough Country 4.5" lift it comes with a bracket to relocate the lower mount. The jeep drives great still with hardly any bumpsteer at all with all stock front steering.
I have had MANY trackbars wear out on me, I have a "lifetime warranty" trackbar from Advance Auto (IIRC ~$65), I take the replacements back around every 6-8 months (3 or 4 times so far) as they seem to wear out. It's the upper frame joint that gets wore out.
You can certainly tell the difference in steering when you put a new one on. When one wears out it can cause death wobble. I have used a stock trackbar on lifts up to 3" (and even on a trail-only Jeep for 5"), it causes the axles to be off-center & affects steering, but it'll get the job done if you cannot afford an adjustable one.
