Well I finally picked up a Dana 44 front. It came out of an '88 Grand Waggy. So it's just a tad wider than the Dana 30 I currently have in thier (61.5 WMS to 60.5 WMS). I'm not going to worry about it to be honest with you, as it's only 1".
I will be converting it to the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. It will get new alloy shafts and a locker (probally an ARB). I will be converting it to a high steer setup of somesort, and maybe even add hydro assist.
Of course I'll have to convert it to run coil springs in the front. I havn't decided what kit I'm going to go with for that yet.
It's going to be a slow build, as this will be the first axle that I will be building to this extent. I will try to document it as I build it up for future reference for any of you wanting to do this swap in the future.
If you look at the right side, the center of the hub sticks out a LONG way compared to the auto hubs D30s that come stock on XJs, so I'm thinking it has manual locking hubs. Reminds me of that k5 Blazer I wanted last year, but gas would be killer and it's only a 305... then I found my xj, and despite the inability to go topless (without a sawzall) I bought it.
