So I am at my real dad's house and my Jeep won't start... I check things out and there's no spark... swapping in a newer coil from my dad's ~94 ram trhe rubber 'boot' on the plug was too big and prevented it from 'clicking' on securely, but we tried it and still no spark.
So... either the contact with the donor coil was not good or there's a sensor issue. (er)> So... any ideas what sensor(s) might have died? Before today everything ran great. Thanks, Matt
p.s. I put in a new(er) junkyard issue HVAC motor today (thanks lunghd from JU for the how-to), I checked connections around there and they at least seem good... might help.
p.s.s. don't ya just love new(er) sensor-laden vehicles? The hard parts are good for (what seems like) a long time, but the sensors always seem to fail!

if your not getting any spark when you crank, check the cps. Its nornally on the bell housing where the engine and transmission join. Mine is on the drivers side as well. Also just check all of your electrical connections and fuses, pherhaps you blew or lossened something while doing the motor?
Good Luck

I checked fuses and they're good... I'll replace the CPS... any advice on how to save some time, effort, and profanity words from being said?
edit: Rustler Dude from JU wrote... x2 on the ****. Did one on a 2000 xj for a buddy....I also dropped a bolt into the bellhousing. Worked from 4:30 to 6:30 for a fawking sensor. Put your 3 ft extensions through the crossmember with a wobble at the end to get the best accress. Also use some 'dum dum' sticky stuff on the socket to hold the bolt there and prevent it from dropping. If you do drop the bolt into the bellhousing, get a 13mm open end/closed end wrench on the bottom bolt to the belhousing shield and get a magnet in there to suck the bolt out.
TheLoneRanger from JU also wrote... t'll make it much easier if you remove the drivehsaft end, and swing it out of the way. You can wire it to the exhaust pipe; this will free up much needed space to access the CPS. Remove the top bolt first, to eliminate the chance of it dropping into the bellhousing; and install it last......
and DansGreyMJ from JU suggested 'a lot of extensions and an 11mm socket'
Well, I guess I'll have to do this tonight, and see what happens. I'll pick up some extensions and a ujoint/flex/wobble thing just in case. Hope the advice from the other guys helps someone here later, and me today.

it was the crank postition sensor... 11mm socket, a ujoint, a ~18" (really long) extention and a ratchet did it. It helps to have small hands too. If not use a kid, the paperboy, or maybe your girlfriend. It helps to have a lift on it... with my 2"bb I didn't need a jack or anything.

It'd be awesome to hit some real trails in the XJ... sucks that the only places around here (closer than silver lake) is construction sites, gravel pits, and private property... and I'm not into tresspassing. Gotta keep us Jeepers in good graces with the masses, ya know. -Matt
