First accessory I would like to add to my XJ is some foglights ...I really like the one that mount on the stock bumper...what foglights do you suggest for this application and does the bumper have to come off to do this install...
just did this, picked up some fog lights from advance autoparts. Little more plastic than I would have liked, but for $25 probably not bad. Will look elsewhere for lights for a lightbar.
Anyways, bumper doesn't have to come off. Mine was already drilled for lights (on top) don't know if they all are). I basically wired the lights together, shoved it behind the grill, mounted the lights and then finished running the wires.
Just need a couple extensions (wobble extensions work better)to reach up under to bolt the lights down. Not as bad as i thought, I was expecting to have to pull the front skid.
BTW, there is a hole in the firewall where the hood pull cable goes through, that's what I used.
Hella 500's fit nice on the front bumper since they are slim and won't hit the grill. They are also a quality product that won't kill your bank account.
Bumper removal is not required, but you're going to want a few flex sockets and extensions if you don't have small hands.
The Hellas are really nice, but I picked up a pair of 100 watt spotlights for ~$18 from the truckstop in Fort Wayne. I believe they're made as work lights on semi trucks....have a rubber housing, and mounted to the bumper in the stock location with just a little massaging. They are deeper than the Hellas are, and make for a tight fit on a stock bumper. Would be excellent on a lightbar.
as recommended I purchased a set of Hella 500 foglights...installation was a breeze. I Highly recommend them. I purchased them from Motion Offroad (a vendor here)...transaction went perfect using paypal and had speedy delivery.
