So got a killer CB at cost brand new . Installed the thing and I got nothing coming across it. It turns on and when I key the mic up I can see the RF and Signal strength meter goes up to close to 5. I don't know the first thing about CB's so I went to Lead's house and I could here him come across his CB but I could not transmit back. This is the only time that I have heard anything. I have driven close to 100 miles on the highway and have never heard a trucker come across channel 19. Lead suggested that I check the grounds. So this morning I went and Sanded the paint off where the mount for the antenna is mounted and I ran the ground for the CB and actually hooked it up properly instead of just rigging it to frame. I gounded it on the passenger side right by the fuse box to a bolt that I think is holding the dash in place.
Welp I'm out of idea's, but don't have much knowledge in this section. Do I just need to get this thing tuned? Ohh the CB is a Uniden PC 68XL and the antenna I have is a firestick firefly, 3 foot I believe.

I wish i could help yha out, When i installed mine, I did all the same. Ground, Power, Hooked up antena after mounting it. It works good, Maybe it is some goophy button to hit on the CB. Im not a genius either.
What do you wire the cb to for power? Since I have an amp wire (big old ugly beast from when I had 2 10s in the XJ, but ran at '-8' since I didn't need all of that power) I'm thinking since it goes right to the battery it'd be the 'cleanest' source of power for it, and if/when I get a XJpod (one little 8" sub in the generally useless cubby hole) I won't run the cb while using the stereo anyways.

I hate when things happend like that Its got to be something simple, just not odvious
Ya so I officially feel like an idiot. It was something simple and obvious. The dang thing is full of buttons and dials that I don't know how to use yet. One of these dials is the sensitivity of the Mic. so if you are soft spoken you can turn up the mic. so you are still heard fine. It was turned down all the way and that was why I was not able to come across to anyone. Yup.... idiot. Oh well it works now so that is good.
