so, i have been working on the truck for a month or so. I decided to go and start it up and let it run for a little bit. I went to start it, and it ran for a second and died. it sounds like it gets completely choked off. it caught me by surprise so i turned the key on again and didn't hear the fuel pump. is that the issue or do i have something else going on?
Could it be that the battery is so dead that it only had life for a second. Maybe the cold got to it, not having it started for a few months or however long it was. Give it a good jump.

I miss the days that they made toys that could kill a kid.
well you said it started and ran for a second or two then died. so even if the pump is bad, it still could have started briefly with the residual fuel left in the lines, etc.

well i finally got around to fixing it. i checked the wiring to see if the pump was getting 12V which it wasn't. i hooked the pump directly to a battery to see if it worked which it did (good i didn't feel like spending $100+ ). so what would you check first?
Try starting it but hold the key in the start position to see if it'll continue to run (fuel pump gets more volts in the key start postion than it does in normal run mode).
Also check the ballist resitor on the drivers side front inner fenderwell. Jump the 2 wires together to see if it'll run than.
well it was the ballast resistor. i was fixing my winch the other day and i have the solenoid box where the airbox was. i must have knocked a wire off because it was unplugged. i plugged it back in and it started up fine.
