Before you go swapping motors and all (your more than welcome to if you want), why don't we try to see what the problem with your current motor is first.
Sounds like your CCV system is jacked up.
Pull the back "plug" on the valve cover and see if it's clogged. This is a VERY common problem on the Renix era XJ's...
Swapping engines is the last thing I want to do, especially when there is snow on the ground as I do not want to have to rely on my Camaro to get me around!
I know that the line is clear and there is strong vacuum coming out of the intake manifold, but I do not know about the fitting inside the valve cover though....
It just started blowing by after I took it on a 120 mile round trip the other night. When I got back to town I had a major oil leak going on and it left a huge puddle underneath. Just today I had to go to the next town which is 20 miles away and it used 1 qt going over, and 1 qt coming home...

Well, it is breathing fine out of the crankcase ventilation on the back of the valve cover. I think it had some blockage in it, but after I cleaned it out, it is still blowing oil.
I took it out on the highway and flogged it and it is blowing some oil out of the tailpipe....

probably not something you'd feel like doing, but if i had the problem i'd pop off the valve cover, and give the insides a nice thorough cleaning... worst comes to worst, even if it doesnt help or fix anything, at least you know that's the last thing you'll have to worry about..
