I know that the 8.8 is better than my 35 i have right now, but do you guys think this is a good deal? This is what the guy put up over on naxja.org.
"I have a Ford 8.8 for sale out of an explorer. It was a disc brake axle, but it doesn't come with any calipers or backing plates. It has 4.56 gears installed. It still has all of the explorer brackets. I also have the yoke adapter that is needed to install this axle in a jeep (typically $25 - $30).
I'm selling it for $125. That's less than half the price of the gears/install kit alone. It's located in Yorkville, IL. No Shipping."
Would this be something worth going and getting?
Thanks, Ben

Read the thread about the 8.8 vs. the Dana 44; specificly my reply/thoughts on it.
Remember that you'll probally go threw the entire axle prior to install, so you'll need to consider the price of new brakes (calipers and rotors). Also consider the price of the UBE's (or new perches) as well as the fact you'll have to re-gear your front Dana 30 to match.
Even at the initial price of $150 for the axle, you'll have at min. another $300 to get it under your Jeep, plus than the cost of a front axle re-gear. So your looking now at $450 plus the re-gear. You can buy a Dana 44 read to swap in the day you pick it up for less than that...
