1. it actually looks like a Jeep, unlike the cheek-pinchably cute liberty 2. more room in general than Liberty, and more passenger room than Comanche (ever ride three wide? It's a tight fit!) 3.stuff stays dry unlike Comanche (no mean to bash the MJ guys) 4. More capable than the car-based garbage (compass and the boxy compass, same platform) Jeep currently makes
edit: an early CJ or a flatfender would be pretty awesome, or a FSJ pickup with a biodiesel fueled Cummins swap. But they weren't options... I took CJ as the later ones from the emissions garbage era (which hasn't ended).

I like the XJ, but prefer it to be built a bit. I can appreciate a really clean stocker, but prefer something a little beefier.
Why? -room for groceries :) -nice square look (not into the futuristic bubbles made today) -plenty of options for build up -Oh, did I mention, EXTREMELY trail capable? Impressive!!! -I could go on...
That said, I like the MJ too, but prefer my XJ. A nice built MJ is sweet though.
Yeah I can agree with the space to haul gear and whatnot. But it seems 3rd parties usually have a lot more Wrangler parts and whatnot compared to the XJ. I know the Quadratec XJ book is like a pamphlet compared to the CJ/Wrangler book. And a lot of people say that the Wranglers are just generally better offroad.
I have always liked the XJ's looks, especially built. In the past I've onwed a YJ, 1500 dodge, and a couple of broncos. My XJ seems to be able to do everything they could and still load up the kids and wife.
on the other hand I do like the new Wrangler Unlimited ala Rubicon but my XJ only cost me $4500.00 not 32,000.00

X2 here, I still would like to have a nice MJ for Daily Driver to work and back, And plus use the bed to haul stuff for yard work and building supplys, But you know i would have to lift it a little. And a nice MJ is hard to find around here in michigan
I like the looks, motors,2dr,4dr,interior,or course built or stock, handling most important, towing, room to put something, which I could use more, inclose area, out of sight, can do just about anything with it, used parts, price of vehicle. And in cast of accident I want to be in my xj. But that comes from being a bodyman, Take my word on that. And you know I like XJ OWNERS----THEY ARE COOL--- And my xjs are alot like my HDS. The harder I run her the more she will mark her territory. The more I work on her the better I get to no her. My past xjs are LIKE EXWIFES never miss them till they are gone!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!! THEY ARE JUST THE BEST RIG FOR WHAT MY LIFE STILE IS.
I started out with an XJ simply because I wanted another Jeep (had a FSJ prior) and wanted the room as I had a young daughter. Knew that the Jeeps were safe, and it was easy to get a car seat in and out of with the 4 doors. I was driving 2 door BMW's at the time and it got old trying to get her in and out of it.
I always liked the look of lifted XJ's, so I decided to get one and lift it etc. For the $$ I have in my XJ it's hard to even buy a stock wrangler. Don't get me wrong, every summer I want to cut the roof off the XJ, but come winter I'm glad I have a full body on it.
