Wll I don't think that it has been discussed on here so I think that I will start it.
My little sister last night decided to try and wade a 89 olds. cutlass (or some car like that) through 20 inches of water . Did not make it. So tomarrow my mom wants me to come over and tow it home (only about a mile) and get it to start. Just wondering how to make some magic and get this car to start. I figure that it has something to do with XJ technical as people tend to dunk their XJ's offroading. Mom states that it does turn but will not turn over. I sugested that she buy dry gas, and I thought that I have read somewhere to change out the spark plugs? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Nice! I would change all the fluids, minus coolant, and let everything dry out for a good while. Might try spraying out the cylinders and plugs/distributor with WD40 also.
Thats what i would do...

Pull all the plugs and than crank it over. See if any water comes out of the plug-holes.
If so your gonna have some fun...
Is this the same sister that's wrecked the car like 5 times?
Yes it is the same sister. I actually can't beleive that this car is still running it has been crashed so many times. I think that I am going to change the oil and spark plugs etc. and see where we are from there. Thanks for the help.

I'm guessing it's because of the flash floods IN had recently because of the ridiculously warm two days we had. It's up to some people's roofs.
Well towed it home this morning with the XJ, replaced the oil. It seemed like it wanted to start but wouldn't. It would chug but not turn over. Got spark plugs and tranny filter/oil but didn't have the time to do any of that.
Took off the air filter and left it open, hope that help dry it out.

Sounds like you are having a fun time with her car. I found out the hard way that vehicles don't swim down in haspin. Chevy's are like a rock and they sink like one to. Hope it starts up for you. If you need any help just let me know.

Ok, so I changed all the fluids right after I started this thread and I still had nothing. It acted like it wanted to start but wouldn't turn over. Last night when it was about 90+ degrees out side in the dark I changed the front 3 spark plugs and it started right up and runs fine. I will prolly change the back three plugs if I can do it sometime in the sunlight and it is a little warmer. But it is still running. I think that my sister is trying to sabatage the car. She was a little disapointed when I got it up and running again... haha.
