Water in the floorboards

Everytime that it has rained in the last month I have been getting puddles in the driver's side floorboard.  I thought that it might have been my seal on the driver's side door.  I could see that the water was coming in on the B-pillar(pillar right behind the driver's seat) from the water spots and the seat belt always being wet.

So I reglued the seals on the driver's side, everything was good, but still water in the floor boards.  angered.gif

Then I noticed that there was water spots in the headliner so I thought that maybe it was coming from the roof.  I then realized that the Previous Owner wired offroading lights for the roof rack that were wired right under the factory rack rails(I took the roof rack off and put on different one without lights so the wiring was still there but no lights).  So today I pull the rack off and the rails that mount to the roof and what do I see, a hole were 2 small wires are run.  The wires are small, the hole.... about the size of a quarter. censored.gif

I can't believe that the hole hadn't leaked before now.  What an idiot, didn't seal it or anything, just put the rail back on to cover up the hole.  So now I have to get some cawk (sp?) and seal up the hole.   Moral of the story, Previous Owners are idiots, and it has rained A LOT this winter.

That does suck. Make sure it a butile caulk not a latex/painters caulk, it won't adhere properly to a painted surface. Typicaly all butiles are used for siding so getting it at home depot is easy. If you want good stuff buy SOLARSEAL from your local building supply company. It works great in fridged weather. Trust me I use this stuff daily.
Your other option is to drop headliner and patch it with metal. This is obviously more work.

Just a suggestion , Aaron

What year is the XJ?
usually this is caused from one particular area, and is the cause of many rotted driver side rusted floor boards that countlees XJ/MJ owners can attest to.
-under the brake booster, where the dash panel (PC word for firewall),meet the back of the rear inner fender there is seam sealer, use a hook tool to pick it out and reseal with new seam sealer (available at automotive paint /repair wholesalers, i.e. painter's supply)
it was a common issue, the sealer drys out, cracks allows water to penetrate between the two lapwelded layers in the drvr's foot well area behing the pedals..then rust bleh

Thanks for the info.  I found where the water was coming in.  It was coming in from a hole about the size of a quarter.  I filled the hole and I think that it solved the problem.

Now I don't have a back window though due to the last wheeling event, so now there would be a lot of water coming in if it was in the rain...  angered.gif
