NP242 swap?

Is it pretty straight forward to swap in a 242 into a 231? What all needs to be changed Transfer case and the Transfer case shifter? Thanks.

I don't know that this is a problem, but the Spline count might be different.  Just something to keep in mind.

make sure the spline count is the same >91<

I just did this. You can get up and running just by swapping the transfer case. You will want to swap the shifter gate (shifters are the same) for the detents to work properly. I also had to swap the VSS modules because 242 had 2 wires, and the 231 had 3.

Can I ask why you'd want to go from a NP231 to a NP242?

Easy, full time all wheel drive. Up here in the winter we got bad patches of ice while the rest of the road is clear so full time would work really well

That it does, been putting it to use all winter. These Mt/r's aren't the best in snow/ice and the full time really helps.

Does the 242 have a viscous coupling inside or a geared torque spliter?

Spline count and input shaft length are the 2 things to look for. And if the 242 T-case input is different the 231 input is a direct swap for each other..
