I've wanted to do this since I got my XJ. Its one of the things I miss most about my YJ. I know people have done this ,but with what hardware changes, and what electrical mods. I'm mostly intrested in front doors only, but I'm sure others may want to take off rears also. So lets hear your ideas.
Thanks - uneducated in MI

I plan on taking my doors off this summer. I will prolly take both the front and the rear off. You can get around the wiring 2 ways. 1. Cut it and just forget about whatever power you had. 2. Get something like a trailer harness and cut the wires, plug in the harness. Then all you have to do is unplug the harness when you take the doors off.

All doors already have a quick disco. If you remove your kick panels on the side they are located behind that. You just have to feed them threw the hole but all (even the 97+) already have a quick disco on them from the factory.
Oh and Chris check out the tube doors in the new 4WD hardware catalog pg. 19 (UP Warrior). I'm sure Motion sells them also or similar at competive pricing.

Their are 2 different style of hinges. Once again the braek is 84-96 than 97-01. The older one's are a bit easier to do than the newer ones.
On the older one's you just simply cut the bottom of the hinge off and keep the pin. The pass. side may or may not have the pin in correctly so if it's upside down you have to then weld the pin in so it stays.
Here are a few pics.
On the '97+ XJ's it's a bit different. I'll update this post when I find the pics to show it.

Yes their is. It's behind the plastic located at the "b" pillar. Remove that entire peice that covers the bottom of the "b" pillar and lower door and you should find the same type of plug.
Ive been dying to do this to my xj. But Does anybody know if taking your doors off and driving it around town is legal in ohio or anyother state? The last thing i need is a ticket.
Also does anyone know if cutting your hinges makes your doors sag? Ive heard that it may. And if so is there anyway to take your doors off without messing with the hinges?
