Okay was getting ready for some spring wheeling so I am checking over the XJ. Decided to pull the cable out a few wraps on the winch and respool for one, haven't used it in awhile, and two it wasn't wrapped good from the last trip. Okay got about 50' or so out and was winching back in. I had a little section that wouldn't wrap smooth so hit the out button, then hit the in button before it stopped. Right after that the jeep died. Try to start - nothing, no power. I am thinking I drained the battery and the alternator couldn't keep up? Was a new battery so I try to jump start with an el cheapo set of cables - can't get it to turn over say once maybe twice at a time. If needed - the vehilce is a 92 XJ with 4.0.
Three questions here:
1 - it appears when I jump I have power again, is there any other fuses I should check that could have gotten zapped?
2 - if a jumper cable is too small of diameter - looks to be smaller then the battery cables themselves will they provide enough current to travel through them to start the dead vehicle? Not sure what gauge these are, but again not very big, and when a battery is completely drained these cables don't seem to want to do the job of jump starting.
3 - did I do any damage going in on the winch before it stopped completely, or is it just a coincidence that the jeep died right after this?
