has anyone heard about these?? or is anyone already using one??  they seem to be getting very popular and supposedly actually work. i know someone personally that is running them on 3 different cars right now.  looking for input!

here is one site that i found that does sell a kit or whatever, but mostly i'm just posting the link for it because it kind of gives an explanation of what the cell does/how it works, etc.  it's actually a fairly basic principal.

have any of you guys on here heard of this yet??  i work at a hardware store and i've had 2 different people come in within the past couple weeks getting things to build a cell.  with the price of gas now, there are a lot of people starting to make these to help on gas mileage.  i'm just looking for anyone else that's been hearing about it! biggrin

I've never heard of it, but that is very interesting. I wonder how much power it generates compared to gasoline? Ive heard that propane conversions are better enviromentally, but you get (this cant be right) a 33% DROP in energy...translating into a drop in MPG used.

I'd be interested in learning more!

I have heard of this.  I don't know anyone that is doing it.  I have heard a lot more about the Propane conversions than the hydrogen.  This is the first time that I have heard that I heard that it has a 33% drop in energy though.  Not saying it is wrong, just saying that I never heard that part.

Me personaly, I don't think that either of these are a permanant solution to the energy problem facing our country.  I think that it would be ok for SOME people to switch over to this, but if everyone did this we would have natural gas shortages and same with water.

I don't think that I would be willing to convert my car over to something this drastic, knowing that it is not going to be a permenant thing.  Just my 2 cents.

i've read (taking it with a grain of salt...)  that these hydrogen generators could actually be implemented into new vehicles within 5 years or so from the factory.

Unless your BMW and always ahead of times... evileye

The new 7 series is available NOW to purchase from the dealer in a Hydrogen Powered model.

is it a purely hydrogen fueled engine??? if so, that's kinda sweet really!

btw, in case there was misunderstanding, these generator cells are a supplement to your current gasoline fueled engines.

Not 100% yet. From my understanding it uses normal petrol when starting and under hard acceleration. The reason also from what BMW AG says is that thier are a limited number of Hydrogen filling stations available.

Remember that BMW's are NOT made in the US and are imported everywhere in the world. So even if there were a TON of hydrogen stations available in the US that does not mean that they are available in Europe (or vise-versa).

I have not read much about it lately as it seems that the discussion about them has dropped off in recent months. Even if they are selling them it becomes an issue of getting the fuel to power them. Untill that is available (just like the issue with E85) we'll continue to see the high prices of normal petrol.

E85 is not the solution to our problems.  It makes more pollution to make one gallon of E85 than it does to burn on gallon of normal gas.  And the cars that use E85 get WORSE gas milage when they use E85 than when they use normal gas. 

E85 = something to make the tree huggers feel good about.

I've got a sidebar question. Why is deisel fuel higher in price, but cheaper to manufacture?

Monday I stopped to fuel up my F250. It cost me a $100.00 for a little under 3/4 tank of deisel. In the busy season I can go through two tanks in a week. ( I usually tow a 10 yard dump trailer with about four or more tons of debris). With this, the price of building materials has also gone up. Anywho I was just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this and if it is cheaper to make.
