IT'S XJ BUGGY TIME NEED SOME HELP!

wasup guy's i just recently blew my 4.0 in my 88 daily driver. So now i have decided to turn it into my buggy. First i am going to turn another 4.0 into a 4.7 stroker, then install.

I have a AX-15 5 speed backed by a 23 spline Np 231.

Also d30 d35 both with lockrights

I am planning on a "CHOP UP XJ BUILD" and i would love to build around the things i have listed above .

So what i need guy's is some suggestions and some insiration!

I don't have any words of insiration.  hahaha just kidding.  This sounds awsome.  Are you going to take all the exo off?  I think that they look cool with the back chopped off from mid way up the body from the back doors on back.  That is what I would do if I were ever to do a buggy.  But from the sounds of things you are prolly going to do more than just that.

for right now we are gonna cut the **** out of it, tube it out, and build a 4.7 stroker, then when the time and money comes it will have a rear dana 60 4 linked, and coiled, and a front dana 44, with 35" tires, he has a 3" inch lift as of now, and once again when time and money comes change the 3" lift to a 6.5" lift,

it might change some along the way, but that is where i am starting

But no havent decided if i want to cut out just the back window or from the back of the front doors oooooor cut it at the front and just use the uni body and hood and front

So your cuttin off cargo roof, lower rear quarters, trimming wheel wells, narrowing frt. facia, modifing nose and frt.fenders, narrowing hood, removing all doors and gutting interior. After all that you will need to do some kind of tube chassis to tie exo/int cage into uni-body.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$and than some.
Or you could sell what you have, get an MJ, do half the work and get similar results. You may even save some cash in fabrication. Just a thought, currently crossing my mind.hmm Still $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Just because you "cut it up" or "tube it out" does not make it more capable on the trails. The XJ is a uni-body so the more cutting stuff off the more you need to reinforce it with tube work. Good tube work is expensive and unless you know someone who has a quality bender the cost of bending the tube is also very expensive.

I'm not trying to discourage you on doing what you want, but I think money spent doing other upgrades to your exisiting rig will make it a much more enjoyable time on the trial.

What size tires do you want to run? That will be the base of a lot of things (axle's, lift, how much trimming you need to do, etc). I'm a huge fan of low center of gravity with large tires. We run 33's on my wife's rig with 3.5" of lift and very very minimal trimming. I run 35's with 5" of lift on my XJ.

Spend the money on lockers, upgraded rear axle, recovery, skids, armor (rock rails, bumpers) etc. and you'll be a lot better off down the road; not to mention enjoy your trail riding a lot more as well.

Just my penny and a half worth...
