1. I have a 1996 XJ. 2. The coolant looks like "brown goo" as my girlfriend says. I think it looks like the contents of a porta potty, but not as stinky. 3. I'm going to do a coolant flush and fill. 4. While I'm at it, the tstat housing is leaking so I figure I'll get a Hesco high flow unit for it and a mr.gasket thermostat (available from Hesco) for it as well.
So my question is, I was price comparing at the local parts store, and they say that the tstat is different from 1995 and earlier, and 1996 and later is not available. Will the Mr.Gasket part fit? http://www.hescosc.com/shop.asp?action=details&inventoryID=43014&catId=
thanks, Matt

Glad that you started this thread I to have some ugly looking radiator fluid and need to flush again. I don't think that mine is as bad as yours, and I drained and refilled a couple of months ago, just think that it would be good to do it again here shortly to make sure everything is clean.

I miss the days that they made toys that could kill a kid.
I run a Robertshaw thermostat which is just like the Mr. Gasket one pictured.
I posted my stock thermostat housing myself and it will flow as good if not better them the ones on the market. I have compared mine to a purchased "ported" housing, mine was ported more with no edges and it is polished also. It took about 10 minutes to do.
I used some Water Wetter just because I had a bottle laying around also.
Total cost was $15.00.

if you look up gojeep on google or mamma.com or whatever searcch engine, you'll come across a website with a million tech articles on XJs by a guy from Australia. His cooling setups are pretty dang sweet, and I was thinking of running a cooling fan setup like his eventually. I'm short on time (have been lately, which is why I haven't been around lately) but otherwise I'd post a link. So, if you find it, post a link please.

anyway, the mrgasket tstat is made in china, but hopefully it's made to the standards of mr.gaskets good name, rather than what typifies chinese manufacturing. I try to buy american made whenever possible, but that's getting political, so I'll shut up now.
