Have inspections coming up and have to get the Crown Vic looking good. I wax it regularly and wash it by hand at least once a week even in cold weather (thank god for indoor wash bays). The wax that I have been using is the "Ice" wax seen here.
I use this for 2 reasons. 1. my car is black and it is hard to get the white flakes out of the cracks. The Ice is liquid and clear and doesn't leave the white residue. 2. The Ice can be applied in the sun and living in a apt. I don't have a garage and usually have to wax in the sun.
So my question is, with inspection coming up, everything has to be crazy clean. One guy I know actually took 3 days off of work to clean his car. I even have to pollish the brass that is on the shells in my shotgun!!! rediculous. So what steps should I use to get the paint looking the best? I know that there is the 3 step processes and clay bar (maybe not right on terminology) but I have never used anything besides turtle wax and Ice wax. So do you have any suggestions? I also have a buffing wheel that I have had for years but have never used. I am leary of this though because I think that it will rip the stickers off the car. Anyways, not really the type of topic on a offroading forum but someone out there has to clean the XJ sometime. haha

i also use ice on the mj. i like the ease of use and the results that i get from it. however, once every six months i use the step kit from meguiars. its the paint cleaner, polish and wax. all liquid form, just apply to a lint free towel and away you go. i get amazing results and a nice coat of wax on it.
3) Tell them that you need your car detailed to thier highest standard. Also make it know that it will reflect on them greatly the quality of the work that is done.
4) Go to waiting room and drink your coffee and eat your donuts that you always have in your car; thats all that cops do anyway right?
5) Half way threw them detailing your car, walk into the shop and let them know that your job is on the line if they don't do a good job. Also make it known once again that the life of the shop is in your hands...
6) Pay said detail shop if you aprove of thier work. If not make them do it untill you aprove.
7) Take car to overaly anal srgt. and tell him you spent hours upon hours cleaning it.
8) Laugh at all your other co-works as you passed with flying colors and didn't lift a finger cleaning your car.
9) Stop back by the detail shop to thank them for thier hard work and let them know you'll be back next year for another detail prior to your inspection.
At least this seems like the most logical plan of attack for me....
1. I don't eat donuts on the job, refuse to. 2. I don't drink coffee. Lately just lemonade. 3. A lot of people do take their cars to a detail shop just to get the ball rolling, and then take it home and clean it AGAIN THEMSELVES to get it good enough. 4. It will be a Lt. that will inspect it, maybe if I am lucky a Lt. Col.
I spent 4hrs last night cleaning and waxing. Just to get a good base on it. I will be waxing the door hinges next time....
