Where is the play at?

If the play is in one of the u-joints than your u-joint needs replaced.

its not in the u-joints it is in the shaft itself or the front diff. or the transfer case whatever it is is allowing the front driveshaft to move 1/4 to 5/16 inch when the truck is in park not sure if it is normal or not or ifg i need to investigate in the front diff. or the transfer case?
thanks

It could also be the front u-joints on your axle too.  That is how you check if they are bad, by twisting the front drive shaft.

That was one major concern I had. Ended up most of the slop was the TC chain had stretched. Some play is normal, but I had about the same amount you seem to have. I ended up having to have the front diff and the TC rebuilt. Hold onto your wallet, if that is your problem it ain't cheap!

Are you sure it not the u-joints on the AXEL shafts? Not to sound like an a-hole but you may have misunderstood Andy.
