my xj has been taking a little longer to start recently, sometimes it goes right away, sometimes it takes a while. i was parked at a friends house saturday night, went to get in and leave, and it wouldnt start. i ended up figuring out there's no spark. i replaced the coil and still nothing. there's definitely fuel, and the engine still does nothing even when trying to hotwire the coil... i have no idea how to get this thing running, and ned to get it out of the guys front yard ASAP!! any ideas?

Next time it does that uplug your CPS, crank it about 10 seconds and than plug your CPS back in. If it fires up after a few cranks than your CPS needs replaced.
I'm not sure how much experience you have with the cps... I replaced mine on the 96 4.0i6 last year, and the plug is just behind the throttle body, with some of the wires going down into the mysterious darkness below and back (where the cps is, and I'm sure if you end up replacing it you'll know what I'm talking about).
My suggestion: go to sears and see if they have an assortment of swivels and extentions all in one nice easy to buy package. Buy that and a couple more extentions about a foot long, or go crazy like I did and get the big one.
