RE: Going to look at another...

First off, what XJ did you end up with? The '95 Country or a different one?

Second, I am the "wife" referred to by Lead. I run the SuperFlex Kit on my '93 XJ. I am really picky about ride quality. I do have upgraded shocks in the front and an upgraded aftermarket swaybar. But, all in all, I would say that the ride quality is good with this lift.

With those upgrades that I mentioned, plus wider tires/backspacing on rims, I think that this setup is just about perfect for what I use my Jeep for. It is my DD and weekend wheeler.

So, as you are making your "to do" list for your Jeep, I would consider those other things as well when considering ride quality.

Yep, got the 95' Country smile

So, what specific swaybar and front shocks did you get, and also what do you mean by backspacing on the rear (sorry if I sound noob, it's because I am.)

And the tires I'm looking at are here:

I am running the Quickor Swaybar from Motion Offroad. It is beefier than the stock one. I still have quick discos, but this really tightened up my front end. It looks like they are sold out of those, but if you PM them on here, or email them I am sure they can recommend another aftermarket swaybar.

I am running Old Man Emu shocks, which I also got from Motion Offroad. They are some of the better shocks available, in my opinion. They do, however, have a higher price tag. But, my feeling is, if I am going to enjoy riding/driving this thing, I am going to spend a little more and do it right the first time.

And by backspacing on rims I am referring to how far the hub sits inside the rim. Imagine that 0" backspacing sat right on the end of the hub (this is not necessarily 100% accurate, but the easiest way to explain backspacing). Stock rims have a higher backspacing so the hub sits much further inside the rim. My rims are at 4". So, they sit wider than stock, but not all the way on the end of the hub. Does that make sense?

Don't ever apologize for being a newbie or asking questions! That is how you learn and it is better to ask questions and avoid making a mistake than to wonder silently! By the way, I don't know that much. I still have to ask questions too!

Just my opinion I would get the super flex kit as well.

More inclusive.

In responce to the tires (Green Diamonds).

Dont' take this personally, but I'm just offering my personal thoughts on it.

The Green-Diamond's are re-treads. I know some here have ran them in the past with both good and bad results. It looks like for a set of 31's your looking at $550 plus shipping for them.

Look into the Maxxis Bighorns that Motion Offroad sells. They are new tires (no retreads like the Green-Diamonds) and you can get the 31's for $620 shipped (they run free shipping on them quite often). So I'd guess you'd be right at that anyways with the other set when you factor in shipping cost. I'd personally go with new tires for the same money...

I run the Maxxis Bighorns, my wife runs the Maxxis Bighorn's, and several guys on here also run them with great results. One of the best sets of tires I've ever ran and I absolutly LOVE them.

You could also consider running a 32x11.5" tire with the RE 3.5" SF kit. That will give you a little larger (taller) tire (not a ton at only 1/2"), but it will give you a 2" wider stance (footprint) on the road/trails and make your rig even more stable. It's amazing what just a few inches wider stance does for the stability of the rig.

Like I said prior, just my penny and a half worth...

Hm, well I didn't know that they were retreads. That makes me rethink getting them. I'll head over to Motion and see what they have...

*opens new tab, goes to motion offroad*

Wow, those Creepy Crawlers look mean, too bad they only come in 35"+ =P

Anyways, the Bighorns look good and are relatively affordable, but what if you want just one more for a full size spare?

And on another note, I'll be changing the water pump soon to see if that helps any with the almost-overheating problem.

Just installed the RE 4.5 super flex kit, and its great. Well worth the saving, waiting, and work.
Also consider the upgraded trac-bar and brkt.

above.gif That is very good advice too.

You can get a 5th tire for a full size spare. If you are looking at $620 for 4 31" tires that makes them each $155. So, add $155 to the $620 for your total for 5 tires. If my math is correct, that is $775. And, you are still not paying shipping!!!

With the 3.5" RE SF kit would it be a good idea to get an SYE or doesn't it vibrate?

I think that it vibrates sometimes and doesn't other times.  I have a 5.5" lift and don't have a SYE.  I would put the lift on, see how it drives, and then go from there.  If you can afford it, it would be best to do it, but I don't have that cash laying around so I would wait and see.

84-96 are less prone to vibes than the 97-01 models. Not saying you won't get any vibes in a 84-96 model, but they seem to be a little less prone to vibes than the later models do.
