With the addition of our newest little Jeeper we've lost a lot of room for camping since his car seat takes up so much room. Not to mention now we've got to take a lot of baby stuff along with us on long trips. The XJ's are roomy, but when camping you quickly run out of room.
So we opted to purchase a roof rack cargo bag for our Surco rack. Picked one up from Motion for $50.
Upon first inspection I was happy with the build quality of the bag. The bag itself is made of thick material and seems to be well built. I was also happy with the fact that the bag came with straps built into it so I didn't have to worry about tieing the bag down. The zipper is heavy duty as well.
We were also happy with the amount of stuff it held. We fit a LOT of stuff in it. As advertised it fit in our Surco rack well. I'd assume it would fit in almost any rack you can fit on your XJ.
Overall a good purchase as we're heading out of town this weekend to go offroading. The added cargo space is very nice and helps make it a bit less cramped inside. I wouldn't hesitate to recomend it to anyone.
Here are a few pics of it installed full of our camping gear.
This bag was a life saver for this weekend!!! The amount of stuff that has to be taken with for such a small being is insane!!! We were able to get probably as much stuff in the bag as would fit in the cargo area of the XJ. If we would not have had this... well, Caleb would have had to hold the food in his car seat.
This is a GREAT buy!! Easily pays for itself in one trip, just by making your life easier!!!
I'm getting to it... I havn't had the time yet to measure.
I figured I'd get some measurements for you. However upon first guess I'm going to say if you fill the bag 100% full your not going to be able to run your 33" spare as well. HOWEVER if you don't fill the bag 100% full I don't see why it wouldn't fit.
Ok I went out and measured it for you. With it packed with all our stuff from the weekend it measures 30" x 40". I had it turned long ways, but I'm sure if you turned it the other way on the rack (40 wide and 30 long) you'd still be able to fit it.
I don't know how much room your spare takes up; but with the bag turned like I mentioned above and it not 100% full I don't see why you couldn't fit it up there as well.
