Largest size tire on a stocker?

What's the biggest tire I can run without trimming on my stock XJ?

Depends on the year of the XJ as the 84-96 and the 97-01 XJ's have different size rear wheel openings.

It also depends on what set of rims your running. Width and Offset (backspacing) are a direct relation to what size tire you can run.

And it will also depend on the width of the tire your wanting to run. You can fit different size (height) tires with different size width tires.

So by saying "a 31 tire will fit and not rub" is not going to happen unless we have more info on the other things that are key.

stock xj , stock tires are 225/75-15, I tried to put on a 30 but it rubbed , load of your stock tire is 1874 lbs. per tire at 118 mph , if your going to tow a trailer a 265/70SR-15 from yokohama geolander has a 2169 lbs. rating, tire width is 7-9" on rim, 9 lbs. heavier than stock, overall diameter is 29.7 stock 225/70SR15 is 1753 lbs. rating with a6.5" rim width, 27.6" overall diameter at 30 lbs. weight of each tire does that help measure your wheel well distance of travel, turning radius hopefully that helps, a 2" economy lift will allow you to put on 30" tire 30x9.5sr15 , weight 38 lbs. , rim measurement is 7.5 , overall diameter is 29.6" , a 4 inch says you can go up to a 32x11.5SR15, and to tuck a larger tire 6" and up you can go a 33-35x12.5QR by BF goodrich( by the way you can check all this out on tire rack.com thats where i got all this INFO

I had a 31" street tire on my old XJ and it rubbed just a tad on the control arms. You are going to rub on the control arms while turning before you will rub on your fenders.

Well everybody here seems to like the Maxxis BH's so that would probably be what I'd be going with. I can't afford a lift right now so I figure why not get good tires... just on a smaller scale lol.

I'd order from motion but the smallest they have are 31's... Quadratec has a bunch of different sizes.. if someone wants to check that out and tell me the Item # of the biggest size I could is I'd appreciate it.

Did you email Motion Offroad and ask if they can get other sizes? It would probably be worth a try.

Just my twocents.gif !

We just have the popular sizes listed on our website. We carry many other sizes and can order you any size you want. Feel free to PM, Email, or Call and we'll quote you on the size you want.

I'm sure we'll be cheaper than anyone else on the Bighorn's as well. biggrin

You can run 31's using an aftermarket wheel. A stocker will rub your lower control arms @ full lock. If you have to use a stocker, 30" may be your flavor.

Are you willing to get different rims when you get your new tires? Again, as I am pretty sure was stated before, this will make a difference too. The backspacing of your rims (stock vs. aftermarket) will make a difference in the "rub" factor.

So, we know you are wanting to keep your Jeep at stock height (for now biggrin.gif ).

BUT, are you going to get new rims when you get new tires?

Well, I was leaning towards the Cragar Street Locks from Motion. I'd just have to get a price quote, I'd probably want 15x8 that way if (actually, when) I get bigger tires I don't have to buy new wheels again.
